if only

Yes indeed, if only us adults looked so good in dungarees. Thanks to grandma and granddad for these dungas, received just this week. T’other grandma sent the pink pair from Tuesday’s photos, muchas gracias.  Been a good day today and a good week -  once mia was back to normal. Both toby and I mega busy at work so wacked in the evenings. Not helped by some disturbed nights but things are on the up. Being woken at 5.30am is far preferable to 3am! Very chilly this morning and stayed cold all day although it didn’t feel too bad as the sun was nice and warm by midday. Still not used our lemon, doesn’t quite feel like gin and tonic weather. Great recipe for a lemon cake in one of my magazines so might do that instead. Might stop toby going to the tuck shop every day at work and buying chocolate….. I am very happy tonight as I found my fleece pyjamas. I hadn’t lost them, just a case of forgetting I had them til I stumbled across them this evening.  We’ve had a good day, went out for coffee at lunchtime and met some pals. Sort of went out for dinner this evening to local Vietnamese. Toby discovered Vietnamese wine, very nice. I’d describe it as a blend of tea and wine, at 14%. Sounds awful but it tasted very nice. anyway, meal started well, mia in high chair scoffing strawberry yoghurt. We shared a chilli prawn starter which was really nice. unfortunately though our mains took quite a while and mia had had enough of being stuck in high chair….  So toby took her out and sat her on his lap where she decided to put her hands in his hot chilli chicken sauce….. thank goodness he realised straightaway before she rubbed her eyes etc etc. so rest of food went into polystyrene containers and home we went. Mia full of beans when we got back and didn’t go to bed til nearly 8. hope it means she won’t wake til 7 but it doesn’t seem to work that way. No plans for tomorrow, hopefully a walk somewhere nice.

a day off at home

Enjoying a day off at home. Mia went to daycare yesterday but didn’t have a good day. She refused to go down for sleeps and got overtired, also refused her milk but ate her solids.  Strange lass, one day refusing solids and the next refusing milk!  Anyway, we decided to get her down for sleep nice and early, 6.30pm and she slept thru til 9am (well, woke for 3 feeds).  Fortunately I had already decided to take today off as sick leave and have an at-home day with her.  I am very glad I did, it has done her the world of good. We’ve had a lovely morning, playing, short walk in backpack and now she’s snoozing. I’ve managed to do washing, cleaning and have already made tonight’s dinner – lasagne. I could get used to having one day off per week. Fat chance! Toby just leaving school now to set off for airport to meet nick and sarah.  Looks like they’ve been lucky – earlier flights into Auckland were diverted, presumably due to fog.  It was forecast to be sunny today but no such luck, cold but dry.   Hope you like the photos that follow, all taken this morning.  Love the dungarees, very cute indeed. We get very lazy during the week – she usually goes to daycare in a fleece babygrow and a lot of her clothes don’t get worn midweek.  Oh, sounds like she is waking, she’s been asleep over an hour so she should be nice and rested. Time to make a cup of tea before I go and get her up….. xxx

sunny sundays

Evening all – tis Sunday evening and back to school for toby tomorrow. He’s had an uneventful holiday, spent pottering and surfing and minding mia.  He’d hoped to go skiing or surfing further south but no plans materialised but he didn’t seem too bothered. Couldn’t really spare the cash for him to go away anyway, we are still paying the price for me not working for 6 months and doing crappy temp work last year. Anyway, it has been a glorious weekend, warm sunshine. We ate our lunch outside today whilst mia napped. not bad for mid-winter eh. Still haven’t sliced open our first lemon, maybe next weekend. Let’s face it, it just has to go in a g and t and we haven’t got any at the moment!  today we have been up to red beach, just 20 mins north near orewa. It’s a place I’d like to live if we could be bothered with the commute.  Stunning beach on your doorstep. Surf is rare up there, but nice when it works. Toby surfed, just for 40 mins, and I had a walk and a pasty from local bakery. Michelle and nick were with us, nick surfing and michelle with mia and i.  It was a lovely morning. Unfortunately the rest of the day seems to have disappeared in a blaze of housework. Toby got a brief second surf in at orewa bar late afternoon. We were going to go out for something to eat afterwards (perhaps sahara restaurant in orewa fletcher family – ring a bell?!)  but mia was too tired and hungry so we came home and have been gulping down lindemans cawarra chardonnay at a bargain $6 per bottle plus red chicken curry. Mia’s been in bed for an hour and a half and we haven’t heard a peep from her.  She seems to be getting better each day though still refusing solids. Nothing planned for the week ahead. I’ll do the daycare run tomorrow and toby will do it Tuesday. Not got a pleasant week ahead at work. Expecting hundreds of joe public through council’s doors seeking rate rebates under new regulations. And guess who manages the reception area….. just praying they all decide to post their applications in.  don’t want to make the local news for the wrong reasons - north shore city council rates fiasco – people queuing overnight to claim their rebates……  Toby’s heading for the airport on Tuesday to pick up nick and sarah who have just been back to cornwall for 2 weeks. I have really missed sarah and am really looking forward to seeing her, probably next weekend. Wonder how they have coped with their first trip back to england for 2 years….?

Well, nighty night. Have a lovely Sunday all.
